2016 Perth Kilt Run 5k and Touch of Tartan Half Marathon

2016 Perth Kilt Run 5k and Touch of Tartan Half Marathon

The 2016 5km Perth Kilt Run and the Touch of Tartan Half-Marathon Run will be held in Perth, Scotland on Saturday 13 August 2016.

Both courses enjoy beautiful scenery including running alongside the River Tay flowing through the heart of Perth and along the scenic pathways of the North Inch.  It really is a spectacular sight to see so many tartan-clad runners heading off up the river – bring your cameras and phones to capture the moment!

Perth Kilt Run History

The first Perth Kilt Run took place on 2 June 2012 in Perth, Scotland, inspired by our twin town of Perth, Ontario who held the first ever Perth Kilt Run in Canada in 2010 as a tribute to the 800th anniversary of of the granting of the Royal Burgh Charter to Perth by King William the Lion of Scotland to Perth, Scotland.

The event has gone from strength to strength over the years and 2015 saw the introduction of a new half-marathon length Touch of Tartan run, which proved very popular.

Everyone can take part in this fun event with those looking for a shorter run or walk entering the 5k Kilt Run and those looking for longer run opting for the Touch of Tartan Half-Marathon Run.

Perth Kilt Run 5k

The 5k run begins at 1.30pm and the course starts and ends on the North Inch. Travelling along the pathway along the banks of the beautiful River Tay, the course is flat making it achievable for people of all ages and levels of fitness! Families can even run while pushing a child under the age of 5 in a pram/buggy at no extra cost!
You can find a map of the route of the Perth 5k Kilt Run below and further information by visiting the Perth Kilt Run website.

Touch of Tartan Half-Marathon

This year’s Touch of Tartan Half-Marathon starts at 10.30am at Perth Airport (Scone) This event is proving to be extremely popular and the free Tartan Express shuttle bus will be running on a loop between Bell’s Sports Centre and the start line on the morning of the race.

The route is a 13 mile half-marathon and entrants will run along scenic pathways and roads and finish on the North Inch. We will be updating a map of the route shortly.

The Touch of Tartan Half Marathon is open to anyone aged 18 and over, and as the course is 13 miles long, we suspect that most participants wouldn’t want to run a full 13 miles wearing a kilt!

Instead participants in the Half Marathon will be asked to have some form of tartan on display – this could be anything from a piece of ribbon to a t-shirt, head band or tartan socks. It’s entirely up to you!

This festival of running and tartan provides the perfect opportunity to visit the historic City of Perth.

Why not make a weekend of it – Perth offers a range of guest houses and hotels to provide accommodation to suit every budget. To help plan your trip visit the accommodation section of the website for details on the options available in the city.

The also provides information on the huge range of cultural, leisure and shopping avaiable in and around Perth.  Visit the itineraries and inspiration sections for ideas and information.
