Talented Perth Artist Shows Us Oor Wullie at 80!
Talented Perth artist Alison Price Artworks (@alisonpriceartworks) is one of a number of artists who have been commissioned to create a uniquely designed sculpture for the mass public art event ‘The Oor Wullie Bucket Trail’ .
Celebrating the 80 th anniversary of the first appearance of ‘Oor Wullie’, the bucket trail has already drawn thousands of visitors flocking to visit all fifty five of the sculptures spread across the Dundee area, however with ‘The Oor Wullie Bucket Trail’ tour visiting Perth on Monday 1st August, we thought it was a great time to introduce the talented Alison.
Alison: “I drew inspiration from the fact that it is 80 years since Wullie first appeared in the classic comic strip. I wanted to produce a piece that connected with all generations that have grown up reading about the adventures and many misadventures of Oor Wullie. I hoped to acknowledge that although he still appeals to the younger generation today, he has been an iconic figure in Scotland for decades and can still bring a smile to a face even if that person is nine or ninety.
My sponsors Balhousie Care have been a perfect fit for my idea and have made the experience even more memorable. These days my artwork mainly focuses on landscapes but this experience has rekindled my interest in capturing the human form and life drawing.”
